It doesn't matter to me how many planets the Astronomers decide are really planets, mini planets, dwarfs, asteroids, or rocks!

What DOES matter to me is what they name them.  The Greeks and Romans named the first five planets after gods and goddesses and we've kept that tradition with Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.

The name of the new dwarf planet, Eris, keeps the old tradition of naming the planets after gods and godesses, but what a dreadful goddess.  Here's a taste of her reputation from Encyclopedia Mythica.  Click on apple to read...
It's really too bad someone named a minor asteroid, Persephone, in the 1800s.

Back in the 60s when I was taking serious Astrology lessons, the chart  below was one of the lessons.
LET'S TALK ABOUT:

What the heck have the Astronomers done with our Planets and should Astrologers care?

Who do we include with the latest definitions of "planets" and what do we do now?
It was expanded to show the modern rulerships with the inclusion of Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.
We still have two Planets ruling two signs each:  Mercury rules Gemini and Virgo; Venus ruling Taurus and Libra. Should one of these new bodies take over the rulership of Gemini/Virgo or Taurus/Libra?  Ceres (Demeter) very naturally goes along with Taurus, being a associated with "sowing of seeds" which goes along with the season of Taurus.   Chiron could have been affiliated with Sagittarius, both being Centaurs, but is commonly linked with Virgo..  Probably nobody wants to be associated with Eris, the Planet of  War and Strife.
